"I needed support for my mental health, but I didn’t know how to ask for it. I didn’t know how to articulate my feelings for my needs to others. Talking to my parents and my teachers about what was going on was terrifying to me."

What is The Nurture Program?

Our team of young speakers share what it’s like to experience mental health challenges such as eating disorders, depression and substance abuse. When a young person is struggling with their mental health, it can be challenging for them to communicate their feelings and needs to parents and caregivers. These challenges can cause strain on both familial and school relationships.

We give insight into how our mental health challenges impacted our school and home lives, and how our teachers and parents were able to support us. We explain how and why we were able to share honestly with the adults around us, and why we were dishonest at times. Through the power of storytelling, our goal is to help parents and caregivers gain a comprehensive picture of how they can best support and understand young people who are struggling with their mental health.

We offer our program in a variety of settings, including school parent-teacher conferences, workplaces and parent-led support groups.
